Turkmenistan reveals data on harvesting of cotton

Some 1.146.939 tons of cotton have been harvested in Turkmenistan, Turkmenpagta state concern reported on Saturday.

Some 36 ginning factories and 159 procurement centres were involved in this year's harvest which started in late August. Some 1.109.000 tons of raw cotton was planned to be collected from 550.000 hectares this year.

Around 1.1 million tons of cotton was collected last year. The country traditionally exports raw materials to China, Russia, Great Britain, South Korea, Turkey, Iran, Indonesia, Singapore, Ukraine and the Baltics.

Cotton production (cotton, lint and uluk) is sold through the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of the country. The textile industry in the country is developing on the basis of an increase in the domestic processing of planted raw cotton.

The second international exhibition-fair of Turkmen cotton products will be held in Ashgabat on November 24-25 2012. Turkmenpagta State Commodity Exchange and the country's Chamber of Commerce are among the organizers of the event.

Meetings on the issues of long-term cooperation with international organizations and companies - final consumers of cotton and cotton production will be held within the event.

Also a conference on the important issues of the cotton and textile industry is planned within the fair. Special attention will be given to the promotion of local cotton in the world market, research and investment in the cotton production sector and cotton processing industry of Turkmenistan.
