Author(s):
United Nations Economic Commission for Europe
Publication Date:
2009
This publication of UNECE aims to respond to the need of effective transboundary water cooperation by analysing the organization and activities of joint bodies both in the region and globally, and by identifying best practices for institutional cooperation. The publication looks into such challenging issues as financial mechanisms, cooperation with national authorities, implementing decisions, and means for the public to participate in joint bodies’ activities. Numerous examples from existing agreements and joint bodies complement the text, which offers recommendations for improving the performance of existing joint bodies as well as supporting new agreements and new joint bodies involving EECCA countries.
