Description:

Dominic Stucker is a climate and water researcher, as well as a leadership development specialist. The inspiration for his work in Central Asia is grounded in having lived and worked in Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan for over 3 years, first as a Peace Corps Volunteer, then with education and children's rights NGOs. While living in a rural agrarian village in Uzbekistan, he could clearly see the links between environment, poverty, and conflict.
Dominic went on to earn a Master's in Environmental Security and Peace from the UN-mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica, writing his thesis on "Linking Natural Capital, Rural Livelihoods, and Conflict: Toward Governance for Environmental Security and Peace in Tajikistan" (2006). An elaboration of his thesis was published as a chapter in "Environmental Justice and Sustainability in the Former Soviet Union" (MIT Press, 2009). Dominic also holds degrees from Brown University and Stanford University.
Dominic's current research interests include climate change impacts, water, leadership and learning in water governance institutions, adaptation, and transboundary cooperation. In 2010, he participated in Brown's International Advanced Research Institute (BIARI) on climate change and water and, more recently, completed a Research Internship with the International Water Management Institute focused on cooperation for adaptation in a small transboundary tributary of the Syr Darya. An article, written with Kai Wegerich, Jusipbek Kazbekov, and Murat Yakubov, is forthcoming from the Mountain Research and Development Journal. Dominic is also co-editing a volume for Earthscan on water management for climate change adaptation with Elena Lopez-Gunn to be published in 2013.
