Water sharing between Central Asian countries has been conflicting for quite a long time already.
Turkmen, Tajik Presidents to discuss regional security issues in Ashgabat
High-level talks between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, who arrived in the Turkmen capital on an official visit will be held on Thursday in Asg\hgabat.
The talks will discuss a wide range of bilateral and regional cooperation.
A separate topic of discussion will be the further expansion of fruitful intergovernmental partnership between the states in such an important area as regional security and joint counter threats and challenges, the statement said.
A package of intergovernmental documents will be signed as a result of the meeting.
"Another Turkmen-Tajik meeting aims to strengthen intergovernmental agreement and identify new priority areas of mutually beneficial cooperation," the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan reported.
The two states are bound not only by fruitful cooperation, which is developing successfully today in several key areas, but also by the long-standing historical ties, Turkmen Dovlet khabarlary reported.
Tajikistan is experiencing a shortage of energy resources, and Turkmenistan is the largest supplier in Central Asia. Existing transport infrastructure allows Ashgabat to export electricity to Turkey, Afghanistan, Iran and Central Asia.
Official Dushanbe expects to have access to the energy resources of Turkmenistan, including fossil fuels and wants to increase the supply of petroleum products to the country.
