These reports were prepared by a group of national experts within the framework of the projects of EU "Harmonization and approximation of standards and quality of water in Central Asia" and UNECE "Water quality in Central Asia". Discussions of the problems of modern quality management of surface waters in the country and a preliminary drafting was conducted at national and regional seminars held in Bishkek, Almaty, Dushanbe, and Ashgabat in 2008-2009 with participation of concerned government agencies, representatives of scientific, industrial and nongovernmental organizations.
